El Tiempo
Talking about the weather in Spanish is tricky. This is because Spanish uses a variety of expressions.
You will need to study this in your course book but here is a reminder.

1. Some expressions use the verb hacer in the 3rd person singular.
e.g hace frÍo, hace calor, hace sol, hace buen tiempo, ayer hacÍa mal tiempo,
mañana hará viento, la semana próxima va a hacer mucho calor

2. Some expressions use hay
eg. hay niebla, hay tormenta. Some hace expressions may also take hay eg
hay sol, hay viento. For past or future use haber; ayer habÍa mucho viento,
mañana habrá tormenta; va a haber mucho sol.

3. Weather involving "water" usually uses the verb!
eg llover, nevar, lloviznar, relampaguear tronar
ayer llovió; mañana va a nevar; nieva; está nevando; está lloviznando;
relampaguea; truena (remember: llover nevar tronar are radical changing /defective verbs)

4. There are also other general expressions with estar:
eg el cielo está despejado
el cielo está cubierto
está lloviendo a cántaros

5. Remember the weather can be past (preterite or imperfect), present/present continuous or future/future
continuous so make sure you know the tenses of the main verbs!

Below is a PowerPoint with the key expressions followed by the same PowerPoint
without the expressions for you or your teacher to test you! Then there are some worksheets
with key expressions again and exercises (answers underneath).
When you feel confident listen to "El Tiempo" at end of Spanish news and see how much you can understand. There will be some formal words like"precipitacion" for rain and "oriental" for Eastern and words like subir, bajar for changes in temperature etc.
